2021 was a year of gains.

In a year filled with business challenges—and some lingering uncertainty for the industry as a whole—overall, things were trending up.

Total Construction Spending Exceeded Estimates in 2021

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, total construction spending during November 2021 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate above the November 2020 estimate:

$1,625.9 billion, up 9.3% 

The Industry Gender Pay Gap Was Smaller Than Most

While it’s true that the construction industry was still predominantly male (only 13% on payroll were women) in 2021, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the gender pay gap between full-time workers was less in construction than in other industries:

All industries = 19% gender pay gap

Construction = 3.7% gender pay gap

2021: A Year of Mobility

In 2021—and for the first time ever– over half of all global web traffic came from mobile devices.
